Ren Thackham’s 18 minute movie blends the world of fantasy with a real game of poker. The award-winning work is considered by many to be one of the most original poker movies in the past years, check out the full movie and some details about the creation process below!

In the past few years there were plenty of plans for big poker movies, but neither the sequal to Rounders, nor Mike Matusow’s biographical movie or Matt Salsberg’s TV series are out yet.

Lady Luck was already introduced at prestigious international film festivals and it won the ”Best Film” title at the New York Film Academy. The movie can be watched online and below you can read a bit about how to movie was made.

Ren Thackham didn’t have any poker experience when she started writing the movie, she just wanted to introduce the feeling of excitement and adrenaline that people experience during any gambling. A poker playing friend of hers checked out the script and told her that it needs to be revised if she wants to be taken seriously in the poker circles.

Thackham spent the next three months playing live poker every day, trying to gather experiences. When she was done she rewrote the script and decided to focus on the feelings of hopefulness and tilt.

The movie was funded by Thackham and her friends, most of the actors in the movie are poker players in real life and they gave Thackham a share of their winnings so the movie could be made.

The blend of imagination and reality could make this movie interesting even to viewers who don’t play poker, why cardplayers can enjoy a new perspective on their favorite game.
