Already on Day 1 of this year’s PokerStars SCOOP, about $10.5 million in prize money has been amassed. Meanwhile, the first ever play money SCOOP has also been launched.
What else could better mark spring for a poker player than the launch of the two weeks long Spring Championship of Online Poker, brought to you by PokerStars? The biggest online festival is now here to keep you occupied and entertained, just until before the WSOP starts, and you can even have a little rest in between. As regards total entries, SCOOP 2014 had already amassed just around $10.5 million in prize money before Day 1 even ended.
On 4 May, three events kicked off in the usual low, mid and high stakes versions: Event #1 NLHE 6-Max, Event #2 NLHE and Event #3 NLHE Turbo Progressive Super-Knockout. The top qualifiers at the end of the day included the likes of Stephen ‘stevie444’ Chidwick and Mike ‘SirWatts’ Watson, competing for the $1,792,000 prize pool in the “H” event. They eventually finished in 12th and 21st places, respectively, while victory and the $315,929 first prize went to ‘Victor chuch’.
At the same time, the room launched the first ever PlaySCOOP, the play money edition of the popular series. The buy-in levels of the 45 tournaments work similarly to those of the regular SCOOP, except there are only Low and High levels. The first event featured a 20,000 and a 2,000,000 play chip buy-in plus a 10% fee; the tournaments had 860 and 122 entrants, respectively. The cheapest event costs 5,000 in play chips, while players have to pay 10,000,000 in chips to enter the Main Event.
