Steve O’Dwyer was given a mango as a lucky charm early in the tournament by fellow poker player Yan Li, and it seems to have worked: O’Dwyer won HK$8,460,803 after beating Fedor Holz heads-up for the first prize.

The PokerStars Championship is still going full throttle in Macau (until April 9th) but we also have some big results already.

The HK$400,000 (US$51,482) buy-in High Roller started on April Fools’ Day with 88 entries and came to an end on its Day 3 with O’Dwyer going 3-bet all-in with Jack-ten suited, which Fedor Holz called with pocket sixes. O’Dwyer flopped a pair of 10’s, enough to take down the last pot and win the HK$8,460,803 (US$1,088,941).

Steve O’Dwyer has over $17 million in live tournament earnings, finishing in the money at over a 100 tournies, but there is something about this victory that makes it somewhat unique: the lucky mango given to him by Yan Li. No word yet on whether he plans to bring it along for his next contest, or it really is just a one-time thing.
