German poker pro Steffen Sontheimer won the $100K Event of the first season of Poker Masters. With that $1.512 million victory he also swept the Purple Jacket – the prize going for whoever wins the most across the 5 PM events. Sontheimer run crazy well in the series, winning the biggest tournament and one of the $50K tourneys, also final tabling two more $50K events and bubbling one.
Sontheimer, the Purple Jacket winner collected $2.733 million in prize money, winning two events and cashing in two more. The second on the "leaderboard’ is American Bryn Kenney who won $1.085 million, while Fedor Holz came in third with $1.054 million. Please note that the next two players put together did not score as much money as Sontheimer.
Not just Sontheimer, seems like the whole country of Germany performed extraordinary well in PokerGO’s new high roller series: three out of the top four in the Poker Masters leaderboard come from Deutschland, the fourth place finisher being Christian Christner. This is in a majority-American field.
As we reported it, Nick Schulman took down the first $50K tournament, the second ended with the eventual Purple Jacket winner Sontheimer’s victory. The third was won by Bryn Kenney, the last $50K event by Brandon Adams.
Sontheimer sat down at the last, 100K final table as the heavy favorite to win the Master’s jacket. When he got down to heads-up with fellow German Christian Christner, he knew at that point no-one could overtake him to win the newest poker trophy, so he had nothing to worry about. Just like in the final hand, where he got it all-in pre-flop with pocket Q’s against his opponent pocket 2’s.
No deuce on the board meant that Steffen Sontheimer is poker’s first Purple Jacket winner.
