The American high-roller regular booked his biggest ever win, after beating Patrik Antonius in the heads-up.
Bonomo outlasted a massive field of 75 entries, who generated a $18,542,370 prize pool. He’s now 6th on the all-time money list with $25,195,747 in total live tournament earnings, overtaking Phil Ivey and Phil Hellmuth amongst others. The final table started with seven of the "usual suspects", like of David Peters or Dominik Nitsche.
The former was the first to bust when his AQ ran into the T of Rainer Kempe’s. David added $1,112,621 to his career earnings of $19 million. The winner of the USPO, Stephen Chidwick followed David, when his K couldn’t beat the of Bonomo’s. The Brit finished 6th, for $1,298,058. Last year’s biggest tournament winner, Brynn Kenney, busted in 5th place. Brynn went out in "Peters’ fashion", as he got his last chips into the middle, holding AQ and lost to Kempe’s pocket tens after the board ran out clean. Kenney walked away with $1,483,495.
One of the representatives of the German-crew at the final table was Dominik Nitsche. He also fell victim of Kempe’s. His last hand started with Kempe limping in from the small blind, holding 58 and Dominik checked with Q. Kempe bet 800,000 on the flop of , which Nitsche called. Rainer continued with 1.7 million on the 6 turn and put Dominik all-in on the A river. Dominik made a hero call after some thanking, only to find out that Rainer flopped a straight. The German phenom picked up $1,668,932 at the page.
Even though Kempe scooped a nice pot in that hand, he was the next out. In his last hand, he limped from the button with 44 and called the 2.5 million raise from Patrik on the small blind. The Fin bet on all streets, eventually putting the German all-in on the river, on the board of 47A3. Patrik rivered a flush with T8 and Rainer was gone. His third-place finish worth $2,039,806 this time.
The heads-up
The heads-up began with Justin holding the lead and it didn’t take very long for the two to get things done. The final hand of the tournament started with a 1.5 million raise by Justin on the button. Patrik 3-bet to 5.5 million, which Justin called. They both checked the flop and Patrik continued with the passive approach on the turn as well. Justin had enough of the checking though, he put 4.5 million into the middle, which Patrik called. On the Q river, Patrik checked one more time and called off the all-in bet of his opponent’s.
