Democrat State Senator Roderick Wright has proposed than repealed a draft legislation to legalise and monitor online poker and gambling in California, USA. Consensus on the proposal seems distant as several groups of various interests are protesting against it in its present form.

Most of them argue that the bill would allow offshore operators and casinos to provide online poker gaming in California, which would definitely diminish the profit of ‘real’ card rooms. On the other hand, contracts with online poker operators would help the state to acquire at least ten percent of the estimated annual income of $2.1 billion accumulated by the one million residents playing online.

As players do find their way to satisfy their needs of gambling via Internet if they want to, it becomes harder and harder for the state to profit from such business by the month. Representatives of the parties supporting the proposal, however, remain hopeful, as it would clearly help California in more than one ways. Also, opposing groups are in favour of the concept itself, its acceptance is only a question of details and a diminishing amount of time.
