Poker is not really considered a sport nowadays, but rather a "dangerous" and "harmful" gambling game. This seems to change now, as this year’s WSOP Main Event winner Jonathan Duhamel has been nominated for the 2010 Canadian Athlete of the Year. In the first round he competes with Olympic champion ice dance couple Tesse Virtue/Scott Moir for the top 8.

The nomination and voting process is open, everyone can vote on the Athlete of the Year website, the best 16 will benarrowed down to 8, then 4 and so forth. This year, Jonathan Duhamel has been also nominated, and if he gets more votes than the ice skating couple, he can easily be the Athlete of the Year. Of course he will have to outlast Sidney Crosby (Pittsburgh Penguins hockey player) or Ashleigh McIvor (freestyle skier), "real athletes" first.
