Boxing legend Evander Holyfield, former heavyweight pro world champion, is taking part in the London Poker Festival, more specifically, in the ’Poker in the Park’ event on 2-3 September.
After winning bronze medal as light-heavyweight on the 1984 Olympic Games and becoming cruiserweight world champion, ’The Warrior’ went on to the heavyweight league, knocking out former world champion Pinklon Thomas in his inaugural match and later Michael Dokes as well. He earned his world champion title from James ’Buster’ Douglas, knocking him out in the 3rd round. He won 43 out of his 55 professional matches, 28 of them being KO. His most notable fights are arguably those with Mike Tyson in 1996 and 1997: both were won by Holyfiled, the first by TKO and the second by disqualification, Tyson having bit his ears.
He is honorary guest of ’Poker in the Park’ on Leicester Square during the London Poker Festival 2010. The fest is taking place between 28 August – 28 September with over 100 events, including the London event of the WSOPE, the PokerStars EPT London and the WPT London. The overall prize pool is over £10 million, the venues are more than 12 and the schedule involves free poker tournaments, poker strategy seminars, the British Poker Awards and the Balla Strip Poker Championship. Sounds promising.
