Harnam Matharu was the chip leader at the WPT Fallsview Classic Main Event, but he never returned from a break as he was taken away in handcuffs by two police offers. He has been arrested for assault charges while his empty seat still managed to cash for $88,000.

Matharu was arrested after friends of poker player Uri Miro thought he fits the description of a player that robbed Miro at a tournament in Kahnawake in November 2014.

The friends took a picture of Matharu and sent it to their friend who confirmed that it was indeed the player who robbed him of $5,000.

Matharu was arrested during the dinner break by the Ontario Provincial Police’s Casino Enforcement unit. Two players busted from the five-handed final table while Matharu was away and in the end he cashed for $88,000. It is currently unknown whether he will receive the money or not.

According to The Globe and Mail Matharu had a Canada-wide arrest warrant against him and that he already had a court hearing regarding his case.
