Jenji Kohan and Matthew Salsberg, creator and executive producer of Showtime’s popular series ‘Weeds,’ are now working on a new show revolving around poker: ‘Whales.’

The plot is about a group of quirky students, some are graduates from Harvard and MIT, who move to an exclusive apartment in Las Vegas in order to try and make it to the $10 million first prize of the World Series of Poker. The fact that Salsberg does in fact play poker might easily give the production an edge in terms of level of reality and standard over of most poker-based attempts of late. You might want to check out his Hendon Mob entry: even though having numerous tournament cash finishes, he hasn’t yet participated in the WSOP itself.

‘Weeds’ is the biggest hit of the two creative minds and, as such, might prove to be more than capable of providing a solid basis for the success of ‘Whales’ as well. Well, let’s see how this plays out…
