The election of 2010’s Poker Hall of Fame class member is near, we only have to wait until mid-September to get to know him. As in 2009, nominations are still open to public until Aug. 31st. As of last Wednesday, 181 people received nominations out of which the top 10 nominees will be revealed on September 1st. On September 13th, the list becomes final and it will be sent to the 16 existing Poker Hall of Fame members and the blue ribbon media panel to determine who gets the glorious title.

The title, which is given to the greatest poker players in the world, and to the most important contributors of the game. There are 16 living members, but the title has been awarded to 37 people to date, including Edmond Hoyle, Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan, Phil Hellmuth and Mike Sexton. Admission into the Poker Hall of Fame is considered one of the biggest honors in poker.

Hall of fame 2010

But what it takes to be among the best? As the Poker Hall of Fame website states, a nominee must have “played poker against acknowledged top competition; played for high-stakes; played consistently well, gaining the respect of peers; stood the test of time; or, for non-players, contributed to the overall growth and success of the game of poker with indelible positive and lasting results.”

If you think you know someone like that, submit your nominee now at the official website
