The reason was that they encountered technical problems on the mobile client, and it also had a negative effect on the VIP Rewards value.

As we have previously posted, PokerStars changed their FPP satellite policy on July 14: If a player qualifies to a target tournament, they had no option to unregister.

This was necessary because earlier on a player could unregister and receive Tournament Dollars (T$) equivalent of the tournament buyin, and cash game players were abusing this system, unregistering from the events and selling the T$ to tourney regulars for 95%-99% of their value.

With this method, cash game players who were not Supernova VIP level could basically convert their FPPs at a rate higher than Supernovas.

The change has been implemented, because PokerStars wanted to guarantee, that the satellites work according to their purpose, which is to qualify players who want to play the target event. The change had a lot of negative feedback, and PokerStars announced that they will reverse the change on July 21.

According to their statement, it had mostly technical reasons, they ran into problems with the mobile client, which didn’t show the players that they cannot unregister from the target event. The change also had significant, but involuntary negative effect on certain players VIP rewards.
