Scott Davies had a great run at this year’s World Series of Poker, he cashed six times and came close to a bracelet in the $10,000 Heads-Up No-Limit Hold’em tournament, finishing in 4th place for $112,000. This time around he managed to go all the way and beat a strong final table on his way of capturing his first WSOP bracelet as well as the 2014 WSOP Asia-Pacific Main Event title.

Action on the final day of the WSOP APAC started started on Level 24 (15.000/30.000/5.000 ante), and it didn’t take much time for the first player to be eliminated. Frank Kassela raised to 90,000, and Ang Italiano called in the small blind, then moved all-in on the Q-4-2 two clubs flop. Kassela instantly called with Q-T, which was way ahead of Italiano’s AT of diamonds. Italian turned huge though, the King of diamonds on the turn gave him a gutshot and a flush-draw to go with his overcard. The river King of hearts wasn’t one of his outs, and the last Australian in the tournament was eliminated in 6th place.

Kassela gained the chip lead with that hand, but the 2010 WSOP Player of the Year was eliminated just seven hands later, after running into Aces twice in two hands.

Kyle ”krmont22” Montgomery, an online Omaha regular was the next player to bust when he lost a flip with A-K against Scott Davies’ J-J. He was followed shortly by Henry Wang, who is a local recreational player usually playing $1/$2 and $2/$4 cash games, he ran his K9 suited into Davies’ A-A.

Heads-up play began pretty even in chips, and nobody gained a significant edge over the next 50 hands. Jack Salter is no stranger to epic heads-up battles after finishing runner-up to Antonio Buonanno, where the two played for 17 hours.

It took a cooler to cut Salter’s victory dreams short again. The hand in question took place during Level 26 (25,000/50,000), and saw Salter opening to 105,000 then calling Davies’ 3bet of 300,000. On the flop of 6-T-T with two hearts, Davies continued for 175,000 and Salter called. The real action started on the turn however, Davies fired a second barrell worth 330,000 which Salter then raised to 930,000. Davies re-raised to 1.8 million, and Salter shoved after tanking for a while. Davies snap-called and showed 6-6 for a flopped full house while Salter was playing with the Q-T of clubs for trip tens.

The river came the 3 of spades and Salter busted out in second for A$516,960.

Even though the WSOP APAC is over, there is still one event in the WSOP calendar, the 2014 November Nine in Las Vegas which has a $10 million first prize, and has player like Jorryt van Hoof, Bruno Politano (who final tabled an event during the APAC), Martin Jacobsson and back-to-back Main Event finalist Mark ”newhizzy” Newhouse.
