Douglas ‘WCGRider’ Polk and Ben ‘Sauce’ Sulsky have made a six figure bet on a heads-up challenge, played in No Limit Hold’em games before mid October.
No Limit Hold’em heads-up challenges tend to be extremely popular in the poker community; both Viktor ‘Isildur1’ Blom’s SuperStar Showdown and the Durrrr Challenge (whenever it is active) has been being followed by a large audience. A brand new challenge has now been announced, which, accordingly, has instantly become a hot topic of the forums: Douglas ‘WCGRider’ Polk and Ben ‘Sauce’ Sulsky will clash soon.
The challenge and the side bet have been announced by Polk via the 2+2 forum:
“Douglas ‘WCGRider’ Polk vs Ben ‘Sauce’ Sulsky – High Stakes HUNL Challenge
I have been in contact with Ben, and we have decided that we will be looking to do a HUNL challenge with a six figure side bet.
We will finish the entirety of the challenge by mid October.
Stay tuned for details,” he wrote and ‘Sauce’ soon confirmed the news.
Opinions differ largely on the favourite and several members are already placing bets on the winner.
‘WCGRider’ primarily plays on PokerStars and is currently up $861,000 in 90,157 hands, according to HSDB. In 2013, he is currently the biggest NLHE winner in the room with $579,598 in profits. He started his career with a deposit of $20 in 2007 and has been playing high stakes since March, 2011.
‘Sauce’ boasts even more respectable results with $3,444,708 in winnings in 388,735 hands at PokerStars. He has $130,512 in profits at Full Tilt Poker after 145,299 hands. He has been playing the highest stakes since 2006 and he was the most successful online high stakes player of 2012. This year, he is in a downswing with $885,417 in losses in 42,886 hands at FTP and $390,882 minus in 53,187 hands at PS, mostly due to his participation in the major draw games earlier this year, where he lost a total of $1.5 million.
In a QJ radio interview with ‘WCGRider’ this June, he spoke about Sulsky’s game and classified him as an opponent he would play against rather than Ike Haxton, whom he concerns the most difficult opponent in HU NL games. Polk also said that ‘Sauce’ had a unique and unpredictable play style and he respected him for his results, even though he could not always understand what Sulsky was doing. Still, he was the best high stakes player last year, so he must definitely know something, as Polk puts it.
