The media across the world reported that the currently injured Brazilian striker Neymar couldn’t watch Team Brazil’s humiliating defeat against Germany through, instead, he went and played some poker.
The Brazilian football team took a historic beating by Germany on 8 July in the semifinals. The German team was already leading 5-0 in just 29 minutes, and the final result came to be 7-1. Team Brazil only took a comparable blow in almost a hundred years, in 1920, when they were beaten by Uruguay 6-0.
Neymar, the biggest name in the whole team, however, couldn’t take part in the action, as he got injured in the quarterfinals against Colombia, when due to a collision, he fractured his vertebra.
Neymar couldn’t stay with his team for the remaining matches, he watched the semifinal with his friends.
According to Spanish news outlet Marca:
"Nadine, Neymar’s mother couldn’t help it and started crying. Neymar and his father didn’t cry as they wouldn’t believe their eyes. The whole room was in shock and anger, just like what the majority of Brazil’s supporters.
Neymar talked a lot, kept swearing, he just couldn’t believe what he saw. It was apparent that he feels sorry for his teammates on the pitch. – Poor David (Luiz) will suffer for this a lot" – he said.
When Germany scored his 7th goal, Neymar switched the television off saying:
"Ya no quiero ver esta mierda! Vamos a jugar poker"—which translates roughly to "I don’t want to watch this s–t! Let’s go and play poker."
"Neymar and his friends went to play poker" – wrote UOL Esporte’s sports blogger, Juca Kfouri, but several mediums including Marca reported that the football star haven’t seen Oscar’s goal for Brazil, he was already playing poker by then.
