The news broke yesterday that PokerStarsChief Executive Officer is leaving his post at the largest poker room in the world. He is resigning to "pursue other opportunities". It was already rumored during the PCA (PokerStars Caribbean Adventure) that the company’s CEO will resign shortly. This was confirmed on Monday, when PokerStars issued the following press release:

"PokerStars announced today that Gabi Campos has decided to step down from his position as Chief Executive Officer, effective Feb. 1, 2012, to pursue other opportunities. The company thanks Gabi for his hard work and commitment and wishes him the best in all his future endeavors. A search for Gabi’s replacement is under way."

Gabi Campos

Campos was named CEO on July 2010, and he officially governed the company ever since. He used to work for Dragonfish Software, whose aid helped 888.com achieve a 33% annual grow between 2008 and 2009.

Campos is the third major official who leaves the company following EPT‘s tournament director Thomas Kremser and EPT’s CEO, John Duthie. Also PokerStars said goodbye to Joe Hachem and Greg Raymer.

However, it is very likely that there are no connections between these resignations, and are in fact due to personal reasons than about a supposed alarming situation at the poker site, since it survived the events of the Black Friday rather well, their place on the market is solid and according to PokerScout, they have 6 times as much cash game traffic a day than the 2nd biggest, PartyPoker.
