PokerStars Pro Vicky Coren started the Main Event Final Table of the European Poker Tour (EPT) Sanremo 2014 stop as short stack but managed to win the €476,100 first prize. She is the first player ever to earn two EPT Main Event champion titles.
Eight players were left for the final day of the EPT Sanremo 2014 €4,900 Main Event, including chipleader online multi-table tournament pro Jordan ‘JWPRODIGY’ Westmorland and short stack PokerStars Pro Vicky Coren.
The seat draw was as follows:
Seat 1: Jordan Westmorland – 3,330,000
Seat 2: Giacomo Fundaro – 3,100,000
Seat 3: Emmanuel Pariset – 1,940,000
Seat 4: Bruno Stefanelli – 1,335,000
Seat 5: Andreas Goeller – 2,320,000
Seat 6: Andrea Benelli – 2,085,000
Seat 7: Vicky Coren-Mitchell – 910,000
Seat 8: Andrija Martic – 1,660,000
First out was recreational player Emmanuel Pariset, whose K-Q was cracked by Andrea Benelli’s pocket aces. Benelli then moved on to eliminate Andrija Martic as well: the latter shoved A:s J:c but Benelli got three spades to his K:s J:s hand.
In 6th place, Bruno Stefanelli was out, getting eliminated by Westmorland’s pocket jacks, and then came Andreas Goeller, who pushed on the J-3-5 flop with T-5 but Westmorland got a third 3 to his A-3 hand. The latter kept dominating the game, even though Benelli was railed by his fellow countryman Giacomo Fundaro and his Q-T.
In the three-handed phase, stacks got evened out by the time Westmorland opened to 200,000 from the Button in a hand on Level 30 (10,000/50,000/100,000). Vicky Coren 3-bet to 500,000 from the BB and Westmoreland called. The flop came 2:s T:d T:h, Coren checked, Westmoreland bet 550,000, Coren check-raised to 1,200,000 and Westmoreland called after tanking a bit. The 4:c fell on the turn and both players checked. Coren then bet 1,500,000 on the 3:d river, Westmoreland shoved and Coren called, showing A:d T:c. Westmoreland held Q:c T:s and was left with only 830,000 in chips, which he lost four hands later.
Vicky Coren-Mitchell – 12,000,000
Giacomo Fundaro – 4,600,000
In the short heads-up, Fundaro did not stand a real chance to turn the tide. In the last hand, the two of them shoved on the J:d 7:s Q:c T:s board, Fundaro showing A:c A:s and Coren Q:s J:c. The river was a neutral 4:s.
Not only did Vicky Coren win the €476,100 first prize but she also became the first ever two-times Main Event champion in EPT history, after her first victory in London in 2006.
