Jonathan Dimmig became a millionaire by winning this year’s WSOP Event #8 $1,500 Millionaire Maker, beating the odds.

On Day 4 of WSOP Event #8 $1,500 Millionaire Maker, the nine-handed final table took place. Chipleader Stephen Graner was the favourite to win the life changing sum: with a stack of 12,005,000, he had three times as many chips as chip counts runner-up James Duke. The Seat Draw was as follows:

Seat 1: Jonathan Dimmig – 2,870,000
Seat 2: Jason Johnson – 1,245,000
Seat 3: Jeffrey Coburn – 1,660,000
Seat 4: Maurice Hawkins – 1,960,000
Seat 5: Andrew Dick – 4,185,000
Seat 6: Stephen Graner – 12,005,000
Seat 7: Bradley Anderson – 3,850,000
Seat 8: James Duke – 4,645,000
Seat 9: Andrew Teng – 4,375,000

Graner managed to increase his stack even more, calling Maurice Hawkins’ re-raise all-in with kings on Level 30 (10,000/50,000/100,000). Hawkins held pocket queens and both a king and a queen arrived on the board, giving the nut set to Graner.

Andrew Dick followed in 8th place and Jason Johnson in 7th, while Graner’s stack started to shrink dramatically. On Level 31 (20,000/60,000/120,000), Dimming, in the lead with 10,390,000 in chips, opened to 250,000, Graner called from the SB and the flop came T:s 7:h 4:d. Dimming bet 260,000, Graner called and the turn came 6:s. Graner check-called Dimmig’s 185,000 bet and then check-raised to 2,635,000 on the 3:c river. Dimmig moved all-in and Graner started tanking. He seemed not to have the nuts but was about pot committed, which eventually made him call and table pocket fives. Dummig, however, showed 9:c 8:c for a straight.

The long 5-handed game lasted until the end of Level 33 (30,000/100,000/200,000), when Bradley Anderson’s ace top pair got cracked by Duke’s trip queens improving to a full house. Andrew Teng came next and then Duke followed, Dimmig’s A-T holding out on the board against his Q-8o hand.

Jeffrey Coburn – 22,850,000
Jonathan Dimmig – 13,050,000

Already in the first hand of the heads-up, the players shoved on the 9:d 8:d 5:d board. Coburn showed K:d 9:c, Dimmig 9:c 8:h and the last streets came neutral, making Dimmig double up. On Level 37 (50,000/250,000/500,000), the event got wrapped up: Coburn raised to 1,500,000, Dimmig called and the flop came 3:d 3:s 2:c. Dimmig moved all-in and Coburn called again.

Dimmig: 6:h 2:h
Coburn: K:h Q:h

Turn: T:c
River: 4:d

Dimmig won with two pairs. He earned $1,319,587 for his victory, clearly surpassing his former career best score of $11,106 for his 3rd finish in the WSOPC 2011 San Diego festival.

End results:

1st: Jonathan Dimmig – $1,319,587
