Dan O’Brien, Jason Mercier, Jeremy Ausmus and Juha Helppi are all in for a golden bracelet today at the World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) 2013.
WSOPE Event #3 €5,300 Mixed-Max NLHE day 3 brought about the 4-handed section of the event. In the lead of the 16 players still in play was Noah Schwartz with 262,000 in chips. Marc McLaughlin, Marc Trijaud, Wai Kin Yong, Nicolaus Teichert, November Nine member Marc Newhouse and James Dempsey got eliminated in this order, before Phil Ivey had to abandon his hopes of acquiring his 10th bracelet in the tournament.
Most of the time, Ivey struggled as shortstack and his final hand occurred on Level 17 (500/2,000/4,000), where he moved all-in from MP for around 40,000 in chips and only Schwartz called.
Ivey: K:s Q:s
Schwartz: 2:h 2:d
Board 3:s 6:h 6:d A:s 8:h
Schwartz won the flip and Ivey was out in 10th position.
Ville Mattila, Joe Keuther, Jake Schwartz, Jeremy Joseph and Shannon Shorr followed and the final four continued with heads-up battles, according to the Mixed-Max format. The semi finals seat draws were as follows:
Dan O’Brien – 1,412,000
Jason Mann – 182,000
Darko Stojanovic – 318,000
Noah Schwartz – 189,000
While it had been anticipated that Dan O’Brien would crush Jason Mann immediately, it was Darko Stojanovic making it first to the finale: him and Schwartz moved all-in in the very first hand, showing A-5 and pocket nines, respectively. The board came A-K-K-8-6.
Mann first doubled up through O’Brien: the 888Poker pro raised with 8-9, O’Brien re-raised his all-in and Mann called. The flop came J-9-7-2-T. Nevertheless, Mann could not escape his faith and eventually lost his stack to his opponent, holding Q-2 against pocket kings.
Stojanovic and O’Brien are playing their final duel today with the following starting setup:
Dan O’Brien – 1,594,000
Darko Stojanovic – 507,000
The end results are as follows:
1st: €188,160
2nd: €116,280

4th: Noah Schwartz – €62,770
